Internal market, industry, entrepreneurship, SMEs and statistics

The EU Single Market accounts for 500 million consumers and 21 million small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). A functioning single market stimulates competition and trade, improves efficiency, raises quality, and helps cut prices. The EU policy in this field includes the free movement of goods, protection of consumers and the environment through standards, supporting businesses and encouraging competitiveness and innovation.

To ensure that unnecessary costs are removed and rules are as effective and efficient as possible, since 2015 under REFIT, 21 initiatives have been adopted and 6 are pending adoption. Moreover, 29 evaluations have been finalised and 1 is ongoing.
