The EU policy in the field of agriculture and rural development aims to ensure sustainable development of agriculture and to support rural areas in tackling a wide range of economic, environmental and social challenges. The policy should enable the EU to ensure viable food production, sustainable management of natural resources and a balanced territorial development
To ensure that unnecessary costs are removed and rules are as effective and efficient as possible, since 2015 under REFIT, twenty-nine initiatives have been adopted and eight are pending adoption. Moreover, one evaluation has been finalised and four are ongoing.
The REFIT Platform has adopted 11 opinions in the area of agriculture. Most of these concern the Common Agricultural Policy.
