The "Journal officiel de la République française" (French Official gazette) contains laws, decrees, orders, regulatory acts related to administrative organisation, public agents, the state budget, acts of independent public authorities, circulars acts and nominal measures listed according to the ministries responsible, as well as collective agreements, parliamentary information, opinions and communications, information and various announcements (such as lists of reference exchange rates), judicial and legal announcements, concessions or requests for name changes.
Since 2016 the Official Journal has been published in its digital version only. This electronic publication requires that acts related to the status and nationality of persons and requests for name changes be protected from search engines with tools such as a captcha
Legal basis
The legal basis for publishing legislation in France is the Constitution. In conformity with Law No 2015-1713 of 22 December 2015 on dematerialization of the Official Journal of the French Republic, the publication of the Official Journal is ensured by electronic dissemination only

Authenticity
Authentic Official Gazette on website Legifrance. In order to ensure this authenticity, two types of electronic signature are used: in most cases XAdES with a high level of authentication, as a non-intrusive signature, and PDF (PKCS7) as an intrusive signature. Furthermore, a secure server with a certificate and a time stamp is used with the software nCipher Appliance. A Crypto Box is used to secure the private keys for the publication signature.
Archiving
The DILA is responsible for keeping the official gazette online with no limit in time.

Form and nature
The "Direction de l’Information légale et administrative" (DILA)is a government office working under the authority of the Secretary-General of the Government (Prime Minister’s Office).

The printing is no longer used for the Official Gazette but only used for missions of public debate by editing books.
A system called "Système d’organisation en ligne des opérations normatives" (SOLON) is used, which aims to manage the flow of primary legislation between the ministries and the parliament and the flow of secondary legislation. SOLON ensures the validation flow with corrections if needed) of a text from drafting to send to publication. Word templates are used and files are converted into XML with the STILA application to prepare also the layout

Workflow
The MS Word is used for the data capture before downloading the content on to SOLON. The users then apply the style sheets designed for the different types of acts produced as e-legislation. The files are then converted into XML, syntax analyse in the STILA application
The staff of the direction de information légale et administrative is in charge of controlling the XML structuration, editing and do the layout.
Publishing
From Tuesday to Sunday, we publish the digital version on the web site Legifrance.If necessary a digital version is published on Monday.
One day is the period between reception of the draft by the publishing organisation and the availability of the published text.

Since 2021, SGG and DILA have launched a vast program to modernize the normative production chain for the benefit of all users (redactors for ministries, Parliament, Council of State and, ultimately, all users of Legifrance).
For this, it is planned to renovate the existing applications and to develop new ones such as an application for consolidating texts by artificial intelligence or a tool to assist in the edition of texts allowing the production of data structured from the start of the process (by importing data diffused by Legifrance).
The quality and quantity of data that can be diffused will thus be increased.
