• Legal act - Adopted on 11 December 2013, Regulation (EU) No 1380/2013

• Report on the functioning of the policy (as established in Article 49 of Regulation 1380/2013): planned to be adopted in 2023
A major reform of the EU Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) was initiated in 2011 continuing efforts to simplify and reduce unnecessary burdens.
The proposed simplification objectives were generally supported by the European Parliament and the Council and achieved with no significant variations from the Commission proposal.
Major benefits are 1) the simplification of the implementation procedures of the CFP; 2) switch-over from a common to a regional approach of fisheries management (regionalisation) that aims to reduce regulatory burden and increase flexibility, acceptance and ownership by operators and thus better compliance; 3) the integration in the CFP Regulation of the measures on conservation and sustainable exploitation of fisheries resources, the measures on the management of fishing fleets registered in the Community outermost regions and the measures concerning the Regional Advisory Councils.
