The European Science Vocabulary (EuroSciVoc)

EuroSciVoc is a multilingual taxonomy developed to represent the main fields of science and the more specific research topics emerging from EU-funded research content. Derived from CORDIS content through a semi-automatic process based on natural language processing techniques, it provides a structured and extensible vocabulary for classifying research domains in a consistent and interoperable way. Its hierarchical organisation is aligned at the top levels with the OECD Fields of Research and Development classification, while the lower levels capture established disciplines as well as specific and emerging topics identified in project content.

Containing more than 1000 categories, EuroSciVoc is currently available in six languages (English, French, German, Italian, Polish and Spanish) with each category enriched by relevant keywords extracted from the textual descriptions of CORDIS projects.

Managed by the Publications Office of the European Union, EuroSciVoc has been developed as a reference vocabulary for the research and innovation community that can support semantic interoperability, reporting, evaluation and reuse across different services.

EuroSciVoc is formalised using SKOS and aligned with Linked Open Data principles. It is published in open semantic formats, namely RDF/XML and Turtle, available for download and browsing.
