Although typically a mild and self-limiting disease, Q fever can cause severe complications. A panel of experts reviewed the best available evidence in order to address issues related to chronic Q fever, transmission through blood transfusion, and risks during pregnancy. This risk assessment was carried out at the request of the European Commission, and in collaboration with the European Food Safety Authority. Possible target readership: Clinicians, public health officials concerned with blood donor programmes, public health policymakers.
