Key data on teaching languages at school in Europe
Metadatos de publicación
How many pupils at home speak a language different from the language of instruction? How is language teaching organised (in terms of when its compulsory provision begins and ends, the choice of languages, the number of languages that have to be learnt, the amount of time spent teaching them, and official pupil/teacher ratio requirements)? What proportion of pupils are taught languages? How many languages are learnt on average? What are the qualifications of language teachers? This report uses 37 indicators to describe the situation in 30 European countries. Eurydice information is supplemented... with data from Eurostat (New Cronos) and empirical data gathered in the PISA 2000 and PIRLS 2001 international surveys conducted by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA), respectively.
