Interoperability of the public institutions chatbots with consumer intelligent assistants
Context: Context: This project was launched with the objective of testing the interoperability between public institutions' chatbots and consumer assistants (such as Siri, Cortana, Alexa or Google assistant). For this purpose, a multilingual voice assistant application connected to the Publications Office chatbot (Publio) was developed for Amazon’s Alexa customer assistant using the Alexa Skills Kit (ASK).
Benefits of interoperability between chatbot and Consumer Assistants
Seamless access to trustable information
Consumer assistants provide instant responses to queries, delivering EU data and information promptly and conveniently, whether users are at home, at work, or on the go.
Consumer assistants support multiple languages, broadening access for non-native speakers or those preferring to interact in their native language. The content published by the Publications Office is multilingual, enhancing dissemination and reuse of EU data and information.
Interoperability with consumer assistants improves accessibility, enabling citizens and businesses to interact with EU data and information published by the Publications Office using natural language via voice or text commands. For users with physical disabilities or who are multitasking, voice-activated consumer assistants enable hands-free interaction, thereby making EU data and information more accessible.
Consumer assistants are embedded in a wide range of everyday devices, including smartphones, tablets, smart speakers and household appliances, which makes them accessible to a large audience. Consequently, authoritative EU data and information is accessible to a wider public.
