This study supports the European Commission in assessing the impact of different policy options implementing an initiative for a European Media Freedom Act. The aim of the initiative is to establish a coherent framework in the internal media market. The study contributes to the definition of the problem, highlighting the reasons for the EU to act in this field. It also provides a comparative analysis of costs and benefits of the different policy options for the most important stakeholder groups. A mix of data collection methods was adopted to gather the relevant evidence, namely: desk research, an open public consultation, interviews, case studies, targeted surveys and a workshop. Based on the collected evidence, the study draws conclusions and presents a preferred option.
