Implementation of EU hygiene legislation in slaughterhouses of countries that joined the EU since 2004. Special Report No 14, 2012

Member states that joined the EU since 2004 had to bring their slaughterhouses up to the EU's hygiene standards and could receive EU funds to do so. This report examines the use made of those funds and whether there were adequate systems to implement the hygiene standards. It concludes that overall, the design of systems was adequate, but that weaknesses found indicate a need for increased rigour in the implementation of the standards.
