The need for this study derives from the increasing challenges that MSAs are facing in relation to digitalisation, new technologies, and e-commerce and the objective was to identify the most promising technologies to be introduced in the MSAs activities in the upcoming years with the view to address these challenges. After in-depth research and several consultation rounds with the relevant stakeholders, the analysis performed under this study yielded a selection of three technologies that would be the most interesting for the MSAs to address their main challenges. These technologies are described in detail in Chapter 5 of this report and constitute the recommendation for three pilot projects proposed to be launched in the near future. The document is structured as follows: Chapter 1: Introduction provides a general introduction to the study and the present document Chapter 2: Challenges faced by MSAs provides an overview of the main challenges that the MSAs face in relation to new technologies and e-commerce as found throughout this study Chapter 3: Opportunities created by new technologies provides an overview of the main perceived opportunities that the new and emerging technologies can provide to market surveillance activities Chapter 4: Most promising technologies provides an overview of the selection of the technologies that could be the most interesting to be used by the MSAs Chapter 5: Proposed pilot projects provides the detailed description of the pilot projects proposed as an outcome of this study Chapter 6: Conclusions of the study Annex 1: Status quo of market surveillance activities provides an overview of the status quo of market surveillance activities and the role played by new technologies and e-commerce Annex 2: Evolution of e-commerce provides an overview of the evolution of ecommerce activities in Europe Annex 3: Overview and prioritisation of new technologies shows the process of identification and prioritisation of most promising technologies recommended in Chapter 4 Annex 4 Early use cases of new technologies provides a detailed assessment of the early use cases of the identified technologies in Europe and beyond Annex 5: Outcomes of the webinars provides an overview of the feedback received during the two webinars organised with the MSAs in the frame of this project
