The aim of the proposal is to help turn Europe into a circular economy, boost recycling, secure access to raw materials, and create jobs and economic growth. The main elements of the proposal include new targets for municipal waste reuse/recycling, packaging waste recycling, and keeping recyclable waste from being landfilled. In addition, the package includes food waste prevention measures. In order to discuss the viability and effects of the new targets, the Committee of the Regions is organising a Territorial Impact Assessment workshop on 9 September 2014 in Brussels. The information in this report will be used as a basis for discussion at this workshop.
