The certification of two reference materials for the mass fraction of solvent yellow 124 in gas oil (Euromarker) certified reference materials

ERM-EF317 and ERM-EF318

Solutions of Solvent Yellow 124 (SY124) with mass fractions of 0.14 mg/kg (ERM-EF317) and 7.0 mg/kg (ERM-EF318) were prepared gravimetrically at IRMM. A total of 1401 ampoules of ERM-EF317 and 1298 units of ERM-EF318 were prepared. The two materials were tested for homogeneity and heterogeneity was found negligible. Dispatch conditions were tested in a short-term stability study and neither freezing nor exposure to 60°C for four weeks were found to alter the materials, thus making dispatch at ambient temperature possible. Stability during storage was evaluated using data from a test batch and uncertainties of stability for storage of 24 months were found 6 % (EF317) and 2 % (EF318), respectively. Purity of the SY124 used to prepare the solutions, determined using nuclear magnetic resonance, detectors as well as high performance liquid chromatography, was found to be 97.2 ± 0.8 %.
