Science plays a pivotal role in supporting policymakers to understand and tackle policy and societal complex challenges effectively. It assists in evaluating various policy alternatives and devising solutions that are grounded in evidence. Science for evidence informed policymaking or Science for Policy (S4P) refers to the use of the best available scientific evidence, knowledge and expertise to inform policymaking, aiming to achieve better quality, effectiveness, efficiency and impact of public policies. The Mutual Learning Exercise aims to facilitate an exchange of information , experiences and lessons learned, as well as to identify good practices, policies and programmes that foster Science for Policy. It will ultimately contribute to understand the diversity of the national S4P ecosystems across Europe and help participating countries to identify in their own ecosystems’ relevant needs, challenges and opportunities and effective ways to address them. The following topics of interest have been identified for the MLE: Indicative timetable Topic 1: Foster knowledge sharing within and among the S4P actors and the public. Topic 2: Processes for Science advice to policymakers: framework conditions and skills. Topic 3: Assessing the effectiveness and successful implementation of science advice and incentives for researchers. Topic 4: Reinforcing S4P governance and trust.
