The goals of the present study are therefore threefold: assessing the current state of the wireless charging market, identifying the main technical aspects of interoperability and defining a suitable product scope. With the information gathered around those three points, the Commission shall have enough input for future deliberation on possible necessary actions to ensure, within the framework of the Common Charger initiative, that e-waste reduction and user convenience are observed in the wireless charging market. The scope of the study refers mainly to the elements that will be considered in order to assess interoperability of wireless chargers. The following elements constitute a charging system. For further definitions of each element please see the glossary of terms : EPS ; Cable assembly ; Transmitter (standalone or embedded) ; Receiver (embedded or add-on). This study should also deliver an analysis on the interoperability amongst different portable electronic devices and the potential for stablishing a common interface for them.
