The 2017-2021 Protocol implementing the Fisheries Partnership Agreement (FPA) between the EU and Mauritius provides for access to the Mauritian waters for a maximum of 40 tuna purse seiners and 45 surface longliners in exchange for an annual EU financial compensation of EUR 220 000, plus an annual specific maximum amount of EUR 220 000 for the support and implementation of Mauritius sectoral fisheries policy and an additional annual amount of EUR 135 000 to support the deployment of maritime policy and ocean economy (EUR 575 000 per year in total). The Protocol also foresees payment of access fees by EU operators benefiting from fishing opportunities. The Protocol will expire on 7 December 2021.
