Skills for smart industrial specialisation and digital transformation
Over 70% of European enterprises report that lack of skills hampers their investment. Half of the workforce may require upskilling in the next five years. And this is a particular challenge for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Supporting upskilling and reskilling for all is essential for Europe to make a success of our digital and green transitions and ensure no one is left behind. Action is needed across all types and levels of skills. Skills gaps, shortages and mismatches act as a brake on innovation and adoption of advanced technologies. Digital skills in particular are a pressing... challenge. Moreover, a broader set of soft skills, such as problem solving, communication, creativity, readiness to learn and critical thinking, is increasingly demanded by employers.
