This report compiles the case studies carried out as part of the Study on the effectiveness of health information on alcoholic beverages, conducted for HaDEA and DG SANTE. The case studies are aimed at understanding the design and implementation of policy interventions focusing on EU Member States (Ireland and Lithuania) and Australia - countries which have introduced measures on health warnings on alcoholic beverages. The study also developed a case on health warnings on tobacco packaging to explore the development and implementation of well-established, mandatory health warnings on tobacco across the EU, where Member States have no discretion on the display of health warnings and EU-wide legislation controls the size and appearance of warnings. In accordance with the approach agreed in the Inception and Interim reports, the case studies were compiled using multiple sources: national policy documents, academic literature, and national statistics, amongst others. To enrich the understanding on the implementation of health warning labels, the study identified and contacted stakeholders from various stakeholder groups to conduct interviews for each of the case studies.
