Techno-economic feasibility of large-scale production of bio-based polymers in Europe

The overall aim of the study was to investigate the technical, economic and environmental potential of bio-based polymers in comparison with petrochemical plastics. The objectives and methodology of the study had been defined by JRC/IPTS with the aim to feed the results into the Thematic Strategy on the Sustainable Use of Natural Resources and the Environmental Technology Action Plan, ETAP. The management and supervision of the research activities, as well as the analysis of the findings and the editing of the final report were carried out by JRC/IPTS.
