Search@PublicAccess.eu proof of concept

As a follow-up to one of the alternative scenarios proposed by the PublicAccess.eu study, the Search@PublicAccess.eu is search engine prototype was developed to test the feasibility of a unified search interface which would enable searching for unclassified documents in multiple data sources of different EU institutions and display the results in a single place.

The proof of concept was based on the reuse of already existing data (documents and metadata), thus avoiding transmissions of the documents from their original sources. Consequently, when building the search engine, a two-step procedure was followed for each of the eight involved data sources: firstly, the available information (metadata) and links to the documents were identified and collected, and, secondly, all this data was indexed in order to make it searchable through the user interface. The Publications Office will use this experience to design an aggregator tool providing a cross-institutional search service on EU legal information content.
