This guidance document addresses the different requirements for compliance checking and temporal trend monitoring for biota and sediment, taking into account the obligations of the Environmental Quality Standards Directive. The recommendations included in the guidance take into account current scientific knowledge and they should allow a harmonised implementation of sediment and biota monitoring across Europe.
