Self directed intensive support service.
This is a new service that will contribute to a cultural shift in how support is delivered, underpinned by a focus on how individual Supported People take greater control of their support.
The aim of this service is to provide housing and independence support to supported people who have a significant reputation to challenge services and/or who may be at risk of offending or causing harm to themselves or others.
The service is primarily focussed on providing support to supported people in their own accommodation and where necessary helping Supported People find their own accommodation. Candidates may be required to work with a supported person's existing service provider to enable the supported person to attain a greater independence. The desired outcome is to provide an approach to service delivery which reduces over support.
Over-support means that often opportunities for natural support (the kind of support we all get from friends, families and the wider community and helps cement our place in the networks of family and community life) are overlooked. Increasing a Supported Person's independence is not always considered to be the ultimate objective of the package. This can lead to inertia and a tendency to maintain levels of support that are in excess of what is required. In addition the potential of supported people taking the lead in their own lives is not always fully explored.
The focus of the self directed intensive support service is on quality, efficiency and control, getting tailored services defined by supported person (or their advocates), at the right time and in the right places.
Candidates shall be required to demonstrate innovative approaches to supporting this client group with an emphasis on assisting Supported People to gain greater independence while reducing support costs.
The self directed intensive support service shall be required to be available to provide service 24 hours per day per day, 365 days per year.
The Service is being commissioned for supported people of adult age both male and female.
This service will be aimed at those supported people with significant challenging behaviours, offending risks and complex multiple disabilities. Supported people may have their own existing accommodation, reside in an alternative residential solution or in out of area hospital.
Supported people may have high support needs and in addition have a significant reputation to challenge and/or be seen as posing a risk to either their own or others safety.
Candidates shall be required to operate from office accommodation in the Aberdeen City area that will provide a base from which the service may operate. It is not envisaged that supported people shall be required to access this office space as it is intended that support shall be provided to supported people in their own accommodation or at another location as appropriate.
