The study looks at technical screening criteria that will allow railway economic assets and activities in the transport sector to be classified as environmentally sustainable, provide insight into potential practices that have led to controversies or greenwashing and assess to what degree different technical screening criteria and reporting requirements will have an impact on investments in the rail sector. Furthermore, the study provides technical input to the work of the Technical Expert Group (TEG), which was working in parallel on recommendations for EU taxonomy, identifying and defining environmentally sustainable economic activities based on objective criteria.
