Global navigation and positioning systems (GPS or equivalent). Ordnance Survey has utilised Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology for more than 10 years and has built a network of over 100 GNSS Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) across Great Britain. The system is known as OS Net®.
Central to the operation of OS Net is a computer system that manages the receipt, processing and dissemination of GNSS satellite signal data from the CORS. Satellite signal data is re-broadcast in raw form, via the internet using the NTRIP protocol, to commercial partners. The system also supports the work of approximately 300 Ordnance Survey surveyors with the supply of Network Real Time Kinematic (NRTK) correction data to enable surveying accuracy to a level of a few centimetres, and the supply or RINEX and Virtual RINEX for post-processing applications.
The current Network RTK software must be replaced to remove constraints on the development of the OS Net service. In particular, the new Network RTK must offer the following benefits:
— the ability and capacity to receive, process and disseminate satellite signals from the existing GPS, GLONASS constellations,
— the ability and capacity to receive, process and disseminate satellite signals from the new Galileo and Compass constellations, as the new public services are made available by those constellations,
— the capacity, unlimited by software, to supply raw and Network RTK correction data to customers and Ordnance Survey surveyors,
— the ability to operate on a scaleable computing infrastructure that is built using virtualisation and cloud computing technologies, and using Windows 2008R2 servers,
— maximum automation in the configuration and operation of the system.
The scope of the requirements includes the supply of services to implement and configure the software in Ordnance Survey's computing infrastructure and the delivery of training in the configuration, operation and management of the system.
The scope includes the provision of the manufacturer's support and maintenance services in order to meet the service levels required by Ordnance Survey in support of our commitments to customers.
We envisage that the term for operation of the software will be for a minimum of 5 years.
