This study provides a synthesis of the annual implementation reports of POSEI (Programme of options specific to the remote and insular nature of the outermost regions) and the programme for the smaller Aegean islands (SAI) for the years 2015 to 2019. The net impacts of POSEI and SAI measures on the overall POSEI and SAI objectives are positive. The programmes are fairly effective and efficient in guaranteeing the supply of selected agricultural products to the areas concerned. Furthermore, the programmes are also reasonably effective in securing the long-term future and development of the livestock and crop diversification sectors (both ORs and SAI) and the traditional sectors in the ORs, although in particular the traditional sectors face some difficulties. The design of the POSEI and SAI programmes, in relation to the agriculture-related problems faced by the OR/SAI, is found to be relevant. However, the POSEI/SAI strategies are considered less relevant in relation to the programme specific objectives. This is mostly due to a lack of clarity in the programming documents and in the AIRs. In addition, some shortcomings with the report template and the indicators used were identified.
