Non-binding guide to good practice for implementing Directive 2006/25/EC 'Artificial optical radiation'

Artificial optical radiation sources are present in most workplaces and include area lighting, indicator devices and displays, many of which are essential for workers' well-being. Directive 2006/25/EC lays down safety requirements regarding exposure of workers to all such sources. Given the Directive's wide scope, it is necessary to identify sources with such an insignificant impact on health that no further assessment is required. The European Commission has thus produced a non-binding guide to good practice for implementing the Directive. This pinpoints applications posing minimal health risks and provides guidance on others. It sets out an assessment methodology including exposures limits, risk assessment and radiation measurements and suggests where to find further assistance. It also outlines control measures to reduce hazards and surveillance to check for adverse health effects.
