Political Officer - Delegation
In order to achieve the CSFP/CSDP objectives of the EU, acting under the guidance and supervision of the EUSR/HoD to the African Union and the Head of the peace and security section: • Follow, assess and report on the political aspects of crisis and conflict situations in Central Africa (notably the DRC and the CAR), Guinea-Bissau, Eastern and Southern Africa notably on AU decisions and discussions; establish/maintain contacts with the appropriate AU interlocutors in that respect • Advise the EUSR in particular on crisis, conflict and reconstruction issues and liaise on this area with relevant EEAS and Commission services and other Africa EUSRs and the EU Senior Coordinator for the Great Lakes Region • Establish close, professional and working relationships with AUC counterparts, EU and African delegations and with international partners such as UNECA and AU-UN on crisis, conflict and reconstruction issues • Coordinate these aspects with the political section, notably on elections and other governance issues, as required • Research and report on the AU partnerships with notably China, Japan, South-Korea, India, Bresil, Russia and feed into the Africa-related dialogues between the EEAS and these countries • Participate in operational meetings on AU-led crisis management operations in Africa at Addis Ababa level and provide political input to these discussions • Provide reports and briefings as required (English and French) including to prepare, report on and follow-up to political dialogue meetings, Joint EU/AU Task Force, EU/Africa senior officials and ministerial meetings etc. (scheduling, agendas, logistics, …) • Substitute for the Head of the peace and security section and HoD as required • Perform any other task within the EUSR mandate as requested by the EUSR/HoD or the Head of section
