Overall purpose functions and duties
Under the responsibility of the Head and Deputy Head of Delegation, the Political Officer will assist the Head of Section in fulfilling the EU mandates, and, in particular, will have the following tasks: * To contribute to the work of the Delegation in the management/coordination of the EU Presidency functions; * To pursue the EU’s policies in all areas, in particular in the fields of human rights and social affairs as well as to promote and protect the EU’s interests and values; * To maintain contacts, exchange information, and chair various EU coordination groups; * To establish and maintain the contacts with representatives of UN Member States, other observer missions at the UN, the UN Secretariat and other relevant actors in New York necessary to facilitate the above; * To provide briefing dossiers, speeches, statements, and articles, as requested; * Replace Head of Section on certain occasions.
