Description

The school is Oslo's oldest public school. The first school buildings were constructed in 1861. The first school consisted of three buildings with two floors, one building for boys and one for girls. The headmaster's residence (building D) was situated between the buildings.
In 1893 the school was extended; the original school buildings had one floor added to them. The school was planned as a general school in accordance with the then standards, and buildings A, B and D got their final design in this extension.
In 1933 the school was extended with building C. The building housed a room for gym, a swimming pool, specially equipped room, room for a dentist and dining hall.
Today buildings A and C are currently used by Møllergata school. Building D is used as a school museum as well as for premises for the school health service. Building A and C were renovated in 1996. The remaining buildings are not renovated with the exception of the external facades. In this project the school shall be extended with one class in each year to 630 pupils.
Møllergata school consists, as mentioned, of four buildings. Buildings A and C make up one building situated against Deichmans gate. Building B is situated against Møllergata and building D is situated between buildings A and B against Wilses gate.
Building A was built in 1970 and is a concrete building typical of its time. The middle building was built at the same time and in the same stype as building A. The building spans between buildings A and B.
Building B was built in 1884 and is on the Cultural Heritage Management Office's yellow list. The building has recently been subject to a climate screen project (2010) where the facades were insulated and polished, existing windows renovated, new internal goods windows assembled and the roof is new.
