AT-Vienna: Research consultancy services
The GeoMol project, supported by the EU (Interreg IV, Alpine Space), develops trans-national geological 3D models of relevant formations in the Alps’ Molasse basin, on the basis of which potential uses and conflicts in energy production and storage in the sediment basins can be collected and managed.
For the development of the 3D geological model, the contracting authority has at its disposal reflection seismics and well data from hydrocarbon exploration. In the project area of Lower Austria, four 2D lines with lengths between five and 12 kilometres are to be reprocessed. A further 33 lines with a maximum of 30 km of individual length shall be subjected to post-stack processing. These processed seismic lines, with a total length of approximately 400 km, are to be interpreted stratigraphically and structurally in relation to a maximum of seven horizons and relevant breaking zones. In addition, digitally available well measurements are available from 12 deep drills, which can be used to interpret the processed seismic lines and are to be processed into synthetic seismograms.
From the present processed and interpreted seismic sections and the digital well data available, a speed model for carrying out the time – depth conversion must be sent to the AG. The variation model to be developed, together with the processed and interpreted seismic lines, must also be sent to the AG. Geological horizons and breaking zones are interpreted in the form of documented and geo-referenced vertices (points, line, areas) in a data format agreed with the WG. The work and results must be documented in a report form and explained and discussed in working and project meetings with the WG.
