Das Land Niedersachsen beabsichtigt die Herrichtung eines Chemie-Campus-Geländes für die Zwecke der Technischen Universität Clausthal, der künftig alle zugehörigen Institute an einem Standort bündelt. Die Institute für Organische, Physikalische und Technische Chemie befinden sich aktuell bereits auf dem vorhandenen Campusgelände im Gebäude 1800. Das Gebäude ist Bestandteil eines Ensembles aus mehreren Gebäuden, die durch Gänge miteinander verbunden sind. Es schließt sich unmittelbar an der Hörsaal für Chemie (Horst-Luther-Hörsaal, Gebäude 1810) und rückwärtig an den Hörsaal das Chemikalienlager (Gebäude 1830). Das Institut für Anorganische und Analytische Chemie befindet sich derzeit noch nicht am Standort, sodass nun geplant ist, dieses Institut zu verlagern, um damit alle Institute für Chemie zu zentralisieren. Die Unterbringung wird auf freien Flächen im Gebäude 1800 erfolgen.
