Description

Bavaria is planning, in coordination with the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, the establishment of a nationwide representative insect monitoring, which will be part of the nationwide monitoring program. The first building blocks from this have been implemented in Bavaria since 2021. As a backdrop for the investigations, the existing system of nationwide representative sample areas is used. The one square kilometer sample areas represent the number and distribution of the existing site types and land uses of Bavaria, so that the monitoring can reflect stock trends for the entire country. On these sample areas, data on biomass, species and individual numbers of selected insect groups are collected at regular intervals. The indicator group ‘Day butterflies and rams’ has been studied in Bavaria since 2021. For this purpose, 187 sample areas (SPF) were established, which are now to be successively re-examined. 167 plots are mapped at a time interval of 4 years from the first monitoring. In addition, annual monitoring is carried out on 20 areas (sub-sampling areas (USP)). This results in a focus year for each lot with the mapping of all areas and three years with up to three USPs to be mapped.
