On 1 July 2018, the World Heritage Committee decided to include Naumburg Cathedral in the UNESCO World Heritage List. As a result, the United Cathedral Founders have decided, in agreement with all parties involved, to establish a World Heritage Reception and Information Centre in Domplatz 1. For this purpose, the entire building complex with yard-side gardens is to be comprehensively renovated and expanded. This includes, among other things, extensive static upgrades, redesign of the interiors for information offers and exhibitions, new roofing and facade renovation. The Domkirchner intermediate structure will be completely rebuilt while preserving the western facade and a lapidarium will be installed on the eastern side of the courtyard.
