The project area of the dike improvement Gekanaale Hollandse IJssel Noord (GHIJ-Noord) includes the northern regional flood defence, the foreland, the foreland barrier and the bank between Hekendorp and Achthoven-Oost. Length approx. 18.3 km. The flood defence does not meet the set flood protection standard in a number of places on this route. The aim of the project is primarily to ensure that the flood defences comply with the provincial safety standard and, where possible, to make a secondary contribution to the quality of the living environment.
