Description

During the service life, concrete tracks may cause substantial damage to hydraulically bonded sights. Two types of damage are currently of interest in the context of the topic ‘Heating damage to concrete road surfaces’. On the one hand, these are horizontal cracks in the area of joints and crosses, which have very few crack opening widths. On the other hand, on certain road superstructures of the concrete slab, delaminations occur from the backing, which are generally associated with erosion. Non-destructive detection of such conditions is difficult in practice. A clear location and meaningful assessment of the nature, extent and manifestation of the damage is usually possible only by removing cores from the road surface. Analyses using this destructive, stationary and ad hoc procedure entail a high human and equipment effort. Various geo-radar systems are currently used to locate cavities under the concrete road surface and to determine layer thicknesses. However, these methods do not allow the detection of beginning delaminations such as to occur between a hydraulically bonded load-bearing layer and the above-laying road surface concrete. In order to detect as far as possible the abovementioned damage to the substance in the future, the development and testing of a scanning test method for the detection of delaminations and structural disturbances in concrete road surfaces must be developed in this research project. The purpose of the apparatus is to be able to carry out a comprehensive, rapid test of the substance. In principle, local or surface delaminations and cracks of a size of a few tenths of millimetres must be detected at an early stage. In the best case, the substance evaluation system could be used. The development of such a measuring instrument represents a significant improvement in the area of non-destructive testing. If the above-mentioned system is available as a tool, it is possible to detect specific damage and improve substance evaluation. 73.
