Description

The Land Rhineland-Palatinate, represented by the Landesbetrieb Daten und Information (Landebetrieb Daten und Information), issues the supply of a content management system (CMS) software to replace the currently existing EXTRAPOL-CMS.
EXTRAPOL is the internal platform for knowledge management and cooperation between the police of all Länder, as well as the Federal Police, the Federal Criminal Police Office, the German University of Police and the Customs Criminal Police Office. In addition, other information services and applications will be provided through the platform.
The current EXTRAPOL-CMS technical base dates from 2004 and has now largely arrived at the end of its life-cycle, irrespective of a partial renewal carried out in 2008.
Due to the age of the platform, there is an increasing number of operational problems and, as a result, increased operating and maintenance costs. Moreover, error corrections are not possible or only with great effort, and there are more problems of compatibility with modern browsers.
Rhineland-Palatinate’s objective is to equip EXTRAPOL for the future in order to meet the growing demands of modern communication and cooperation (including in a police-adequate form).
As new forms of communication (e.g. Social media, Twitter, etc.), the renewal of the EXTRAPOL platform aims to ensure that HTML5 standard browsers are supported as well as “new” terminals such as tablet PCs or smartphones.
In addition to achieving the above objectives, ensuring operational stability is at the heart of Rhineland-Palatinate’s efforts in the EXTRAPOL environment.
Against this background, it is intended to use a commercial and supporte CMS in the future.
