The construction relates to the refurbishment and extension of Kiruna Älgen 1 which is rented by the Sameskolstyrelsen. The building provides preschool and school activities from preschool class to grade 6. In total, there are about 100 students and preschool children in the Sámi School's activities today. The building was built around 1962 and has since been expanded in stages. In 2014, the most recent part was expanded where preschool activities are conducted.
