Description

As part of the urban development programme "Social City of Gladbach and Westend", the urban children's and youth centre STEP (Jukomm) on Stepgesstraße in Mönchengladbach will be extensively upgraded and modernised. The aim of the action is the sustainable further development of the institution into a central place for open child and youth work as well as for cultural and participatory offers of young people. The five-storey building, built in the 1980s, is being energetically renovated, brought up to date in terms of fire protection and rebuilt taking into account the needs of accessibility. In addition to functional and technical upgrades, design improvements are implemented, especially in the entrance area, on the facade and in the interior. Among other things, it is planned to set up a youth participation café, new workshop rooms, barrier-free sanitary facilities and a new outdoor access with elevator system. The conversion takes into account sustainable building materials, energy-efficient technology (e.g. heat pumps, photovoltaic system) and recyclable materials.
