Description

Under BGR's contract with the International Seabed Authority (IMB) for the exploration of polymetallic tubers (also called manganese tubers) in the Northeast Pacific, BGR is obliged to record basic environmental parameters. The scope of the prescribed investigations includes not only the recording of the ground-level currents but also the determination of the natural particle flow from the surface water to the seabed. For this purpose, anchoring systems with sink traps are used. This method refers to the purchase of a deep-sea anchorage consisting of two sink traps, two flow meters and a top float with iridium transmitter (compatible with already existing iridium system in the BGR), and fixed by ropes and buoyancy bodies in the water column. The system is ordered without release system, without weights and without rings and shackles, as the BGR still has them in stock.
