Description

Railway bridges are vital points of these infrastructures, so their maintenance and conservation requires special attention. This requires periodic technical inspections to be carried out, as well as, where appropriate, maintenance work, with the aim, on the one hand, of avoiding risks that may lead to accidents, with possible damage to persons and property, and interruptions of a basic transport service such as rail transport and, on the other, of keeping them in appropriate conditions of use, minimizing the costs associated with their conservation. As established in Order 2/2016, of February 15, of the Ministry of Housing, Public Works and Vertebration of the Territory, which approves the catalog of railway and tramway infrastructures of the Generalitat, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) assumes the status of Administrator of Railway and Tramway Transport Infrastructures. The functions of Infrastructure Administration include the partial or total maintenance of the infrastructure, in accordance with the provisions of article 87.4.c of Law 6/2011, of April 1, of the Generalitat, of Mobility of the Valencian Community. On the other hand, as indicated in the Instructions on Inspections on Railway Bridges (ITPF-05), the Infrastructure Manager is responsible for undertaking the necessary inspections and actions to maintain the bridge in adequate safety and service conditions. On 15 October 2019, FGV finalised the contract for the ‘Metrovalencia Railway Bridge Inspection Service’, file No 18/089. The work focused on the bridges that are located on all Metrovalence Lines, and inspections were carried out on their condition, as a result of which inspection reports were issued detecting certain incidents that had to be remedied through the follow-up of the Maintenance Plans drawn up for this purpose.
