The site Kouter also known as the former gendarmerie barracks is owned by Interwaas. The site has always been versatile, as witnessed by the multitude of functions that have resided in the buildings and site since 1765. Socially caring features have been a carrier of the site over the years. In line with its strategic goal, Interwaas wants to realize a leading residential project on the site. It is Interwaas' intention to have a realistic, financially feasible programme realized within the set conditions. In the search for a further social interpretation of the site, Interwaas has concluded a cooperation agreement with CAW East Flanders. Interwaas is responsible for the development of the site including the parking and the (semi) public domain. The CAW is responsible for the realization of the reception centre and CAW location within the development framework of the site. For the development and realisation of the Site, including the reception centre and CAW location, the parties will take an integrated approach.
