Description

The Association of Nurses in Bavaria is a corporation under public law, which was founded in 2017 on the basis of the Nursing Association Act as a representation of the interests and self-governing body of professional nursing staff in Bavaria. Unlike in the nursing chambers of other federal states, membership of the VdPB is not obligatory and non-contributory for professional nurses. As professional nurses and thus potential members of the VdPB, nurses and nurse assistants from all areas of professional care are considered. Due to the voluntary membership, full registration via a membership directory is not possible in Bavaria. For this reason, the Bavarian State Parliament issued legal regulations for a professional register for all nurses in the Free State of Bavaria in July 2024. The VdPB is commissioned to implement this legal mandate. For the start of the professional register, the date of 1 June 2025 was determined. Nursing professionals who pursue their profession in Bavaria are then obliged to report information on their person, their employment relationship and their educational qualifications in the professional register. There are currently around 170,000 nurses (at least 3 years of training or academic training) in Bavaria. The task consists of the development of a campaign that promotes and supports the establishment of a comprehensive professional register for nursing professionals in Bavaria. As non-compliance with the registration obligation is currently not linked to any specific sanctions, it is necessary to address the persons affected by the obligation accordingly, which motivates them to register quickly.
