Das Hochwasserschutzprojekt Buoholzbach sieht die Erstellung von einem Geschieberückhalteraum vor, welcher durch seitliche Leitdämme und Stahlbetonmauern abgeschlossen werden. Weitere Projektbestandteile sind zahlreiche neue Erschliessungsstrassen, die Verlegung des Mündungsbereichs vom Buoholzbach in die Engelbergeraa sowie zahlreiche Werkleitungsverlegungen.
