The administrative district of Uckermark is structurally strongly influenced by the local chemical process industry. Due to the current and future decreasing importance of fossil fuels and demographic change, the region is under acute transformation pressure. The region is therefore aiming to establish an "Innovation Campus" at the Schwedt/Oder site with funding from the Just Transition Fund (JTF). As part of this, a number of coordinated individual measures will enable innovation and start-ups to be promoted, jobs to be safeguarded and new, sustainable jobs to be created for a climate-neutral economy. In view of these structural challenges and untapped potentials, the district of Uckermark plans to build and operate a modern boarding house, i.e. a dormitory for the temporary and affordable accommodation of young people without a permanent employment relationship or sufficient income. The new boarding house is intended to appeal to apprentices of all companies that train in Schwedt, students of OSZ Department 3 Schwedt as well as (works) students from outside the district.
