Description

The purpose of this call for tenders is to entrust a company with the construction and operation of a gigabit infrastructure in the ‘grey NGA areas’ in the Land of Berlin. The gigabit-capable high-performance network to be built must ensure a symmetric supply of the addresses designated in the development area with a bandwidth of at least 1 Gbit/s (minimum bandwidth). The minimum bandwidth is reached when it is provided in the building at the end point of the line technology. The conducted market exploration procedure confirmed that the construction and operation of such a gigabit-capable high-performance network in the development area is not economically viable. For this reason, the grantor is willing to provide the private telecommunications company(s) with a one-off, non-repayable investment grant to cover its economic viability gap(s) (so-called ‘economic viability gap model’). The grantor has submitted two applications for funding under the Federal Government’s funding programme ‘Support for the Gigabit expansion of telecommunications networks in the Federal Republic of Germany – Gigabit Directive 2.0’ and has received provisional funding in each case.
