The closure of the inner S-Bahn ring has freed up areas that will enable the Leipzig-East to be opened up with a green active band in the future. This will make it possible to better link the many public green and open spaces of the district. At the same time, an important contribution will be made to improve the foot-and-radical connection of the Leipzig-East beyond the public roads to the city centre.
The eastern park arc is divided into three sections. While the southern section of the Lene-Voigt Park and the Anger-Crottendorfer-Bahn Schneise has already been completed in the past and the so-called Nordspange has so far been a planning vision, the Sellerhaus Bogen (East section) is to be implemented by 2025 with federal funding from the ‘National Projects of Town Planning’ programme, the Federal-Länder programme ‘Social City’ and the EU ERDF Structural Fund.
The Sellerhaus Bogen runs above the surrounding city level on a railway dam or on the impressive Sellerhaus Viaduct between the Anger-Crottendorfer-Bahnschneise and the Leipzig-Dresden railway line to the north of the railway. The objectives of the transformation include pedestrian and cyclist pathways, attractive green cover, places of encounter and calm, and opportunities for play and sport.
