New daycare centre Querum // Technical equipment
The city of Braunschweig is planning a new replacement building with seven groups on the property of the existing daycare centre in the Querum district. It currently operates a 4-group Kita on a 9,000m2 plot on Duisburger Straße, in the immediate vicinity of the development area. The daycare building, built in 1965, is no longer economically rehabilitable and is to be dismantled as part of the project. Instead of the previous four kindergarten groups, a total of seven groups are to be provided in a replacement new building, of which three kindergarten groups, one integrative kindergarten group and three crèche groups. During the construction period, the existing day care centre must be able to continue to operate, taking into account the required outdoor play area. The cost range KG 200 to 400, indexed for 2026, is approximately EUR 6.9 million net. The city of Braunschweig pursues the goal of sustainable building construction and sustainable building operation combined with CO2 neutrality. In the task of developing the new replacement building, depending on the design to be created, the need for an alternative quarter during the construction period must also be examined and integrated into the project in a timely and economical manner. The new daycare facilities are expected to be available during the first quarter of 2029. The complete demolition of the existing building and the redesign of the outdoor facilities would then take place by the summer of 2029. Currently, a possible start of construction is expected in the beginning of 2027.
