Description

On behalf of the BMZ, the Development Policy Forum (EF) is the central point of contact for the conception, planning and implementation of high-level development events and dialogue processes. The objective of the EF is to promote development dialogues to implement the 2030 Agenda. The events are intended to contribute to the positioning of German development policy in the international environment. They bring together decision-makers and experts and give them space for the further development of advisory and implementation approaches in development cooperation.
In order to strengthen the acceptance of development policy measures and to promote technical dialogue on the implementation of German development cooperation measures, exchanges with stakeholders are organised through technical dialogues and events. The individual formats are tailored to the respective sector strategies, so that the respective specialist dialogues and events contribute to the overarching work on the promotion of the 2030 Agenda and the priorities of German development cooperation. In particular, the focus is on the four BMZ focal topics (COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences, poverty and hunger, Just Transition, feminist development policy) as well as the two perspective topics (refugee movements and causes of flight, digitalization in the DC). In addition, further issues may arise from current political developments.
The EF's work focuses on the organisation and follow-up of technical bodies, conferences and working groups. Inquiries regarding the design, planning and implementation of specialist dialogues from the specialist units are handled by the EF on an ad hoc basis after consultation with the BMZ Unit K2 and the BMZ Unit responsible for the subject. This includes methodological and technical advice, research, conception and planning of events and specialist dialogues as well as the implementation, follow-up and processing of events and specialist dialogues. In addition, the core services of the EF include knowledge management, cooperation with actors from the national and international stakeholder landscape and the corresponding networking, as well as environmental monitoring and evaluation of expert committees, conferences and working groups.
The aim of the services is the preparation and supplementation of standardized approaches to event management with further aspects. Process knowledge as well as methodological and content-related configurations of dialogue formats are relevant here. As hybrid and digital events make up the bulk of the events to be implemented, the EF will further develop appropriate digital approaches and formats and translate them into its advice. Existing and future methods and approaches are to be prepared within the framework of sustainable and inclusive knowledge management.
The target group of support for an effective and widely accepted development agenda is - over a very long impact context - in particular the people affected by unsustainable development worldwide. At the direct impact level, the respective addressees of the specialist dialogues and events organised by the EF are the relevant actors from politics, business, academia and civil society for German and international development policy, as well as the specialist public for development policy. In particular, these include representatives of the institutions of German and international cooperation, scientific institutions, decision-makers and experts from politics, companies and non-governmental organisations, members of the German Bundestag or the state parliaments or the European Parliament, as well as interested citizens.
