Description

Today, Swissmedic operates its IT landscape mainly at the Federal Office of Informatics and Telecommunications (BIT). At BIT, it obtains data center, data communication and office automation services, workplace infrastructures and associated services (PCs, notebooks, multifunction printers) as well as central security, gateway, identity and access management solutions. For specialist applications, Swissmedic also obtains the system operating services up to and including the operation of the database management system from BIT. Swissmedic organises application support, software product maintenance and solution development with third parties. Cloud services are implemented on highly scalable third-party platforms (hyperscalers) and operated by partners. Due to the desired digital freedom of action, the decision was made to switch to IT standard and private cloud services on the free market. The change is intended to procure stable, secure and, in particular, future-proof and flexible IT infrastructure and standard services in order to create optimal conditions to cover Swissmedic's digital needs in the coming years.
