The Essen fair intends to rehabilitate and modernise large parts of its approx. 110 000 m² of exhibition space. The upgrading involves demolition and the structural and functional restructuring and reconstruction of more than half of the exhibition site. To this end, some of the halls located in Essen Rüttenscheid will be dismantled or modified to such an extent that they represent a consistent and uniform trade fair concept. The fair should therefore also become attractive and future-proof for other organisers.
The measure affects in particular the halls 4-12 located in the Messe Mitte and Messe Ost, which are being replaced or converted in different construction stages. Trade fair operation will continue during the conversion phase, so that three large sub-sections are planned. While the planning and contracting phase is expected to be completed in the first half of 2016, implementation will take place in the following 3.5 years.
The SOP architect has joined the ZWP and SPI offices as master planner and is currently preparing a preliminary design plan. The estimated budget is approximately EUR 57600000 net for cost group 300 and 400 according to DIN 276. The works will be awarded to a general contractor according to current planning.
As the construction work is to be carried out during the current trade fair, particular attention should be paid to the logistical challenges in the provision of services.

The Essen Fair reserves the right to commission further services as required and according to the progress of the project.
The services will be contracted in stages/optional in accordance with the project management contract. Details of the scope of the services and the contractual arrangements are given in the tender specifications, which will be sent to the qualified candidates to be invited to submit a tender after the competition has been concluded.
